I have previously discussed the value of BIM for design, construction, operation, and maintenance enterprises. However, I overlooked an important group involved in BIM applications: BIM software vendors. Today, let’s explore the value BIM brings to these software vendors.
Value One: Income Growth
Currently, the BIM software market in China is largely dominated by foreign products, with most domestic software built on these platforms through secondary development or expansion. In recent years, China has shifted its focus from central government initiatives like the Twelfth Five-Year Plan to local policies that actively promote BIM applications. This trend is undoubtedly great news for BIM software vendors.
Vendors can leverage this opportunity to expand their user base, enhance brand recognition, and increase market visibility. Domestic BIM software companies, in particular, have the chance to develop localized solutions by conducting in-depth research and creating modules tailored to national conditions. This approach not only contributes to the localization of BIM software but also benefits enterprises, effectively achieving two goals at once.
Value Two: Broader Room for Improvement
With BIM’s rapid growth and widespread adoption in China, software vendors face the need to differentiate their brands and improve their professionalism. Since BIM can be applied throughout all stages of a project lifecycle, vendors must carefully evaluate whether their software’s capabilities meet these varied requirements.
BIM has pushed vendors away from traditional marketing strategies, encouraging them to develop more comprehensive and specialized software driven by market demands. This shift helps address the diverse needs of project stakeholders and enhances the competitiveness of the software providers.
Value Three: Continuous Benefit Growth
There is a saying in China: “buy and sell with one hammer,” which refers to businesses focused only on immediate profits. Such an approach doesn’t work with BIM applications. BIM software functions are continually evolving, and construction projects are becoming increasingly complex and varied.
As construction industrialization advances, the era of a single software covering an entire project or relying on one or two functions is over. Although BIM software currently meets many project needs, ongoing upgrades and value-added services will generate greater benefits for vendors while improving enterprise efficiency. Therefore, these value-added services represent another important profit source derived from BIM.
In summary, I have shared some thoughts on the value of BIM for software vendors. Since I am not directly involved in software development, I apologize for any inaccuracies or biases in this overview.
