On March 31st, with the completion of concrete pouring for the 40th floor core tube wall, the height of the “China Zun” structure — the tallest building in Beijing constructed by China Construction Engineering Group Co., Ltd. and China Construction Third Engineering Bureau (consortium) — surpassed 200 meters.
Since beginning above-ground construction, the China Zun project has overcome numerous challenges, including a confined site, traffic congestion, military parade halts, and haze-related suspensions. The project successfully completed the installation and operation of the world’s largest intelligent lifting steel platform in housing construction, featuring the highest load-bearing capacity and integrated large tower cranes.
World-Class Super High-Rise Construction Platform Transforms into a ‘Building Factory’
Utilizing the enclosed three-dimensional space of the steel platform, the China Zun project coordinates workflows across multiple levels. Construction processes such as steel structure hoisting, welding, steel bar binding, formwork support, concrete pouring, and embedded work are carried out simultaneously. Each step’s insertion and completion times are fixed, turning the platform into an assembly line that significantly enhances the industrialization of core tube construction.
The construction pace for the core tube remains steady at 5–6 days per floor. By August this year, the structure is expected to exceed 330 meters, surpassing the third phase of Guomao to become the tallest building in Beijing.
14 World and Chinese Records Establish the Concept of ‘Self-Centeredness’

The China Zun project is located on the Z15 plot of Beijing’s CBD core area in Chaoyang District. The building stands 528 meters tall, with 108 floors above ground and 7 underground. It integrates Grade A office space, conference facilities, commercial areas, sightseeing platforms, and various supporting services. Once complete, it will be the tallest building in Beijing.
Construction began on July 29, 2013. The building is scheduled to top out in July 2017 and be completed and operational by October 2018.
The Two World Records
1. The intelligent lifting steel platform is the largest and most load-bearing integrated platform for super high-rise housing construction globally, and the first to feature two large tower cranes.
2. This is the world’s first building exceeding 500 meters constructed in an area with a seismic fortification intensity of 8 degrees.
12 Chinese Records
1. The deepest foundation pit depth for civil buildings in China, reaching -40 meters.
2. The greatest number of basement floors for a Chinese civil building: 8 (7 floors plus one mezzanine).
3. The largest single concrete pour volume for a domestic base plate at 56,000 cubic meters.
4. The tallest building designed by Chinese architects.
5. The thickest giant column wing wall domestically, with a maximum thickness of 2,400 mm.
6. The largest diameter rotary drilling pile in domestic housing construction, measuring 1,200 mm with an effective length of 54.6 meters.
7. The first use in China of 40 mm diameter HRB500 grade steel bars for the bottom plate, totaling approximately 17,000 tons.
8. The largest C70 self-compacting concrete multi-cavity giant column poured domestically, with a single-column cross-sectional area of about 90 square meters.
9. The first domestically developed super high-rise jump floor elevator.
10. The first domestic construction phase to apply a combined “temporary/permanent” fire protection system.
11. The first project in China to use the PW collaboration platform enabling comprehensive cooperation among owners, designers, supervisors, general contractors, and various subcontractors.
12. The first Chinese project to integrate BIM models, 3D scanning, and other technologies throughout the entire lifecycle from design and construction to operation and maintenance.
