1. Project Introduction:
The Singapore Civil and Cultural Centre, also called The Star Performing Arts Centre, is situated in Rochester Park, Singapore, adjacent to Bonaventure MRT Station. It officially opened in October 2012.
The building features a performing arts center located on the upper floors, a shopping mall on the third floor, and an underground parking lot. The performing arts center spans floors 3 through 11, covering 38,000 square meters. It houses a 5,108-seat performance hall, a 770-seat multipurpose hall, and a 300-seat open-air theater. The architect behind this project is Andrew Bromberg from Keda.
2. BIM Tasks:
The architectural design boasts a unique appearance, with architects placing high demands on precise surface positioning. They require flat surfaces and specific spatial relationships between them. The curtain wall layout follows the grain, and its sizing is carefully adjusted and matched when surfaces change direction to achieve a smooth, flowing line effect.
In developing the architectural concepts, the team begins with a solid model and then uses Rhino software to produce a model for the architect’s review. Since Rhino struggles to create true planar four-sided surfaces and is not ideal for producing drawings, Revit is used to remodel the design. The BIM volume is finalized according to the architect’s specifications and approved before curtain wall installation. Following the architect’s guidelines, the entire curtain wall is arranged, and detailed drawings are produced to represent the three-dimensional space in two-dimensional formats.
