BIM Architecture: Vietnam's Bird's Nest Cafe by Red5 Studio and Ben Decor

Since September, Red5 has been collaborating on the design of a coffee shop for the brand September. This new design draws inspiration from the themes of “wind and nest,” building upon the previous coffee shop’s narrative centered on “autumn and fallen leaves.”

The venue comprises two adjacent shops along the street, connected on the first floor. Our design aimed to create a nest-like structure with intentional gaps running through both buildings, symbolizing unity and openness.

The facade takes advantage of its width and height by being encased in steel, replicating the image of a bird’s nest from multiple perspectives. Circular elements hanging from the facade gently sway with the wind, resembling birds perched on branches.

To evoke the September brand’s identity and atmosphere, the interior extensively features warm and neutral tones such as white, beige, soft pink, orange, and natural wood finishes.

Curved and circular design elements are incorporated throughout the space, appearing in the glass windows, stairs, walls, and even in small furniture details near the entrance.

These curved elements symbolize the wind and are found on ceilings, walls, and floors, bringing a light, airy feeling throughout every corner of the café.

For spatial planning, we brought the garden indoors on the first floor, creating a seamless experience that feels like being outside while inside. Visitors typically sit quietly or enjoy the view from the bar counter. The second and third floors are designed for guests who prefer to stay longer.

The rooftop serves as a sky garden, while the lighting installations resemble tree branches supporting a bird’s nest — an ideal spot for social media check-ins and also designated as a smoking area.

The furniture and overall space design take inspiration from bird nests, featuring curves, branches, birds perched on branches, and small circular motifs that create a cozy nest-like environment in the heart of the city.
