The Schotra Art Exhibition Center stands as both a vibrant public space and a new cultural landmark. Designed as an elevated pedestrian park and exhibition venue, it resembles a green-winged bird soaring above the city center’s sports complex, seamlessly blending nature and art into the urban fabric.

Commissioned by the Shuotra District People’s Committee, Hukui Architectural Design Company developed this exhibition center to preserve and showcase local artworks. It also serves as a lively hub for regional artists to connect and collaborate. Situated within a vast sports complex, the design reimagines public space, inviting visitors to explore elevated gardens above the city and stroll along winding bridges that appear to float among treetops.
Visitors are treated to breathtaking panoramic views, including romantic sunsets over the Han River, making the experience both memorable and serene. This elevated garden creates a welcoming environment, encouraging locals and tourists alike to reconnect with nature and culture in a unique setting. It doubles as an ideal spot for selfies, relaxation, and contemplation.

Unlike traditional exhibition spaces that often rely on simple geometric forms, this project challenges the conventional. The design draws inspiration from seagulls, common birds along the coastal region of Shutra District, where the center is located. This influence is expressed through a smooth, multifunctional concrete ribbon that flows through the entire space, shaping the exhibition hall both structurally and aesthetically.
The design ensures fluidity and openness across the entire complex, including the sports center. Custom-designed columns serve multiple roles, facilitating transitions from roofs to walls, shading entrances, connecting stairways to rooftop areas, and providing essential structural support. This adaptable approach embodies freedom and fluidity, redefining the possibilities for public exhibition spaces.

The exhibition hall’s roof is designed as a series of park-like surfaces at varying heights, creating a dynamic, inviting landscape for visitors to explore. This design also generates a large public space underneath, with different levels offering unique outdoor areas for entertainment, strolling, and sightseeing. By merging the exhibition space with an elevated park, the project seamlessly integrates art and community within a natural and welcoming environment.

All trees planted on the rooftop have been carefully selected to ensure their shadows won’t hinder the growth of natural grass along the rooftop paths. To support the steep slopes of the green roof and prevent soil erosion during heavy rains, the landscape team employed a terraced design inspired by mountain agriculture. This technique stabilizes the roof’s slope, creating a lush, enduring landscape that harmonizes with the surrounding environment. Notably, Vietnam’s iconic high mountain terraces served as a key reference.

The Schotra Art Exhibition Center is a visionary space where imagination takes flight. Its sustainable design combines structural innovation with vibrant aesthetics, leaving a lasting impression on visitors and photographers alike. It truly embodies a dream of architectural form and beauty.
