How Revit Adds Materials to Mass Components
1. Adding Materials to Mass Components Created with Built-In Components
1. Select the created volume model and navigate to Modify | Volume. Click on In Situ Editor to enter the volume editing mode.
2. Click the volume model again, then press the Tab key to cycle through and select the surface where you want to apply the material. In the Properties panel, locate Materials and Finishes. Click the small square button next to Material to manage material parameters.
3. Click the three-dot button at the end to open the Material Browser dialog box, where you can directly assign materials to the volume.
2. Adding Materials to Newly Created Mass Components Using Metric Mass Family Templates
1. Select the volume model and press the Tab key to select the surface to which you want to apply a material. In the Properties panel, under Materials and Finishes, click the small square button next to Material to manage material parameters.
2. Click the three-dot button to open the Material Browser dialog box and assign materials directly to the volume.
Note: The methods for adding material parameters and assigning materials to components were covered earlier, so we won’t repeat them here. If unsure, please refer back to the previous sections.
Q&A: When I select only one edge of the mass model, I can still add materials. How does the material show on the edge?
When you add a material by selecting an edge in the mass model, the material is applied to all faces adjacent to that edge.
