Understanding How Revit Maps Textures on Family Component Surfaces

How Revit Maps Textures on Family Component Surfaces

One limitation of using the decal tool in Revit is that it can only be applied within the project environment and is not available in the family editing mode. To overcome this, a practical solution is to assign an appearance image directly to the material. The detailed steps are as follows:

First, open the Material Browser and locate the material you want to modify. In the Appearance tab, click on the “Regular” menu, then select “Image” from the rectangular box next to it to choose the desired image.

Next, click the small triangle at the bottom right corner of the image box to expand the options. Select “Edit Image” to open the Texture Editor dialog, where you can edit and adjust the image texture as needed.
