What to Do If Your Revit Annotation Symbol Family Appears Too Large When Loaded Into a Project
When creating an annotation symbol family in Revit, you might notice that it appears too large once loaded into the project, as illustrated in the image below. What should you pay attention to when designing this symbol family to avoid this issue?
First, when using a standard annotation family template to create your symbol, check the view scale displayed in the bottom left corner of the view window. By default, this scale is set to 1:1. If you’re unsure about the correct size for your symbol lines, you can calculate the dimensions proportionally. For example, if the view scale in your CAD drawing is 1:100 and the radius of the symbol’s circular line is 175mm, you should create the radius as 1.75mm in the Revit family. This ensures that the symbol will display correctly when loaded into the project.
Additionally, annotation symbol families can be nested within their respective families before being loaded into the project. This approach allows the symbols to consistently follow the host family. Typically, these symbol lines are visible in the project plan view when set to medium or coarse detail levels. In fine detail mode, the actual model elements appear instead, so you may need to adjust the visibility settings of your symbol lines accordingly.
