How to Save Built-in Model Families Separately from a Revit Project
Built-in families are typically embedded within the project model. But is it possible to save them separately to a local folder outside the project? The answer is yes.
First, create the built-in family within your project. Once created, click on the “In situ Editor.” Then, without closing the project, create a new family by selecting the appropriate family template. This opens the family editing environment. Use the shortcut WT (Flat) to display all views.
Next, use Ctrl+C to copy the built-in family from the project, switch to the new family environment, and use Ctrl+V to paste it. Finally, save the family file separately to store the built-in model family outside the original project.
