How to Create a Group in Revit
In many projects, you often need to place multiple identical component groups. So, how can you quickly place these identical components? Let’s explore the “Group” feature in Revit.
When arranging elements on one floor and other floors have the same layout, creating groups is an efficient way to copy elements across floors. First, select all the components that belong to the same element. Then, go to Modify > Select Multiple and click on the Create Group tab.
After creating a group, the group element appears in the Project Browser under Groups. You can find this group within the model and either drag and drop it directly into your project or copy it in plan and elevation views.
The created group is fully editable—you can add or remove components, or even disassemble the group to separate all its elements again. Additionally, groups can be saved as linked files within the project or loaded into other projects for reuse.
Note that when copying groups, the system-generated names may become corrupted, so a new naming system needs to be created.
Also, elements copied using the array command remain grouped with the original elements. To edit individual components, you must ungroup them first. If you select an arrayed element with connectors, ensure the Group and Associate box is checked. However, once grouped, no further connections can be made.
