How to Recover Unsaved SketchUp Models
When saving SketchUp models, you might notice that two files are created: one with a .skb extension and another with a .skp extension.
The .skp file is the standard SketchUp model file, while the .skb file serves as a backup. If you cannot locate your original SketchUp model or accidentally lose it, you can recover it using the backup file.
SketchUp includes an auto-save feature by default. It automatically saves your work every five minutes. You can find and adjust this setting under Window > System Settings > Regular.
To recover your model, simply rename the backup file’s extension from .skb to .skp. (For guidance on changing file extensions, see Question 77: How does Revit create and save a family template file?)
