Why Can't Revit Rotate Loaded Families or Nested Families in a Project?

Why Can’t Revit Rotate Families or Nested Families Loaded into a Project?

When attempting to rotate a loaded family or a nested family within a project to a desired angle, Revit may display an error message like the one below: “Cannot rotate the graphic element to this position.”

This issue often arises due to the way the family was originally created.

There are two main approaches to resolve this problem:

1. Select the family that cannot be rotated, open it in the family editor, select all components, and rotate them together before reloading the family into the project.

2. Modify the modeling method used to create the family.

Note: Objects created with reference to elevation planes can only be rotated on their respective reference elevation planes when loaded into families or projects. These objects cannot be rotated within elevation views.
