How to Fix Missing SHX Fonts When Opening CAD Drawings
When opening CAD files, you may often encounter a prompt indicating that one or more SHX font files are missing. Each time you open these drawings, a dialog box appears, asking how to handle the missing SHX files. So, what can you do to resolve this issue?
The dialog box offers two options: specify a replacement file for each missing SHX font or ignore the missing fonts and continue. If you choose to ignore the missing SHX files, the drawing will open, but some text will be missing, resulting in incomplete information and an inaccurate representation of the drawing.
Solution 1: Specify Replacement Fonts
Select the option to specify a replacement font for each missing SHX file. A dialog box will appear, allowing you to assign a font style to the missing fonts. The missing font names appear at the bottom left of the dialog, and you can replace them with existing standard fonts.
After replacement, all text should display correctly. Alternatively, you can search online for the missing SHX files, download them, and copy them into the CAD FONTS folder. Once installed, the drawing will open without any missing font prompts.
Solution 2: Ignore Missing SHX Fonts and Replace Within CAD
If you choose to ignore the missing SHX fonts and open the drawing anyway, you can then enter st in the command line to open the font style manager. Look for any fonts marked with exclamation points, indicating missing fonts.
Replace these fonts with available ones, or download and install the missing fonts into the CAD FONTS directory. This will ensure all fonts in the drawing display properly.
