Setting the View Range in a Family in Revit
When creating a family in Revit, certain elements may not appear in elevation views even though they are visible in 3D. In such cases, it’s important to verify that the correct settings are selected in the view and to pay careful attention to the view’s range. Here, we will explain how to adjust the view range within a family.
For example, a table with four legs is visible in the 3D view, but in the plan view, only the tabletop is displayed while the legs are missing, as illustrated below.
1. In the Properties palette, select the floor plan under the Furniture category. This will display the View Range settings in the Properties palette.
2. Click on View Range and then select Edit. Enter the appropriate elevation values to extend the view range, as shown in the image.
After adjusting the view range, the table legs become visible in the floor plan view, as demonstrated in the figure.
In summary, both the project plan view and the family plan view have their own view range settings. By properly adjusting the view range in families, you can more easily observe and work on components during the creation process.
