How to Convert Thick Lines into Thin Lines in Revit Family for 3D Display
Changing the line style only affects the current view, showing thin lines temporarily. However, when you reopen the file, thick lines will still appear, and exported thumbnails will continue to display thick lines. To permanently switch from thick to thin lines, try one of the following four methods.
Method 1: Adjust the View Scale
1. Set the view scale on the view control bar to 1:1 to display lines at their actual thickness.
Method 2: Modify Lineweight in Object Styles
1. Press VV to open Visibility/Graphics settings, then go to Object Styles. Select the relevant model category and reduce the corresponding lineweight to the desired thinness.
Method 3: Remove Insulation (For Pipe-Related Families)
If neither of the above methods works, check whether insulation has been applied to the thick lines. For pipe families, insulation adds thickness—removing it can restore thin lines.
Method 4: Create a Custom Lineweight Scale
1. Under the Manage tab, click Other Settings, then select Line Weights from the dropdown menu.
2. Add a 1:1 scale setting and adjust the lineweight values accordingly. This ensures that thin lines display correctly across views.
Note: The thickness of lines during drawing is controlled by the lineweight settings found in the VV Visibility/Graphics > Line Styles section.
