How to Create Shaped Beams by Cutting Openings in Revit
As illustrated below, let’s start by drawing a simple rectangular beam in Revit:
For easier drawing, switch to the South elevation view. Then navigate to Architecture > Structure > Opening > By Face. Select the beam’s face where you want to cut the opening by simply clicking on it.
Revit will automatically detect and select the beam’s center plane, as shown in the image below:
Next, sketch the desired opening shape directly on the South elevation. Once you’re done, click Finish to exit the editing mode.
You will see that the beam’s left end has now been cut according to the opening shape.
This same technique can be used to create beams with variable cross-sections tailored to your design needs!
