Exporting Built-In Model Components in Revit: A Step-by-Step Guide

How to Export Built-in Model Components in Revit

In Revit, built-in modeling commands are frequently used to create models. However, after completing a model, you might realize that it can be useful in another project. In that case, you need to export the built-in model and load it into a different project for reuse.

Follow these steps to export and reuse built-in model components:

  1. Create your model using the built-in modeling tools.
  2. Go to the Application menu, then select Save As > Library > Group. Enter a name and save the file.
  3. In your new project, navigate to the Insert tab, choose Load as Family, and locate the saved file.
  4. Open the Project Browser, go to Groups > Model, find the group you loaded, right-click it, and select Create Instance to place it in your project.
  5. Once the group is placed, select it and use the Ungroup option on the Modify tab to separate the components as needed.

This method allows you to efficiently reuse built-in model components across different Revit projects.
