How to Use Filters in Revit to Change the Color of Pipeline Attachments
When working in color mode, once a pipeline attachment connects to a pipeline, it adopts a uniform color. During project implementation, there are times when it’s necessary to differentiate the pipeline from its accessories using different colors. This is where filters become essential.
Generally, there are two primary methods to color pipelines:
- Editing the material within the pipeline system
- Using filters to apply colors
Let’s take the computer room example below. The image shows the scene before any filtering has been applied.
If you are using the first method:
- Click on Visibility / Graphic Overrides in the properties bar, as shown in the image, or select the filter option under the View panel.
- In the dialog box that appears, choose Filter and click Edit/New to create a new filter. Select Pipeline Attachment as the filtering category, leaving the filtering conditions empty.
- After creating the filter, add it to the pipeline attachments and adjust the color as desired.
- Return to the 3D view to see the updated color applied to the pipeline attachments.
For the second method, there are two scenarios when assigning pipeline colors through filters:
- If pipeline attachments are not selected when creating the filters, you can use the steps above. In this case, pipeline accessories remain unaffected by the pipeline color. If both share the same color, you can change one of them to differentiate.
- If pipeline attachments are included while creating the pipeline filters, the solution is to create a separate pipeline attachment filter. This filter must be placed before the pipeline filter in the list, as illustrated in the figure, to achieve the desired effect.
Why Distinguish Pipeline Attachments from Pipeline Colors?
When setting up a pipeline system, it’s often unnecessary to differentiate between pipelines and their attachments initially. However, there may be a need for visual distinction later on. Using filters to assign different colors makes this process simple and efficient.
