How to Rotate and Hide Revit Section Boxes
Recently, while preparing screenshots from Revit for a PowerPoint presentation, I discovered some fantastic uses for Revit section boxes.
Let’s start by looking at my model. Open the 3D View and check the Properties tab in the Properties panel. Enable the Scope Box option. This will display a section box around your 3D model. (By now, most of you are probably familiar with this!)
Next, switch to the upper elevation view. You’ll notice that the section box does not fully align with the area of the model you want to crop. So, what should you do?
This is where the trick comes in!
Click on the section box to activate it. You will see six directional drag handles, as well as a rotation icon at one of the corners. (Viewing from the upper elevation helps you control the rotation direction more precisely.) This rotation icon is key! Simply click and drag it to rotate the section box to the desired angle.
Alternatively, you can select the section box and use the Rotate command to adjust its orientation.
Once rotated, use the six drag handles to fine-tune the cutting range to your preference.
When you’re ready to capture your final image, simply hide the section box (using HH or EH shortcuts).
Doesn’t this make creating clean, focused images much easier?
