How to Control the Visibility and Appearance of Parts in Revit
In Revit, you can specify whether parts and the elements used to create them are displayed in a particular view.
To do this, click on an empty area within the view. The Attributes and view properties will appear in the properties palette.
Under Attributes > Graphics, locate the Component Visibility dropdown menu and choose one of the following options:
- Display Parts: Each part is visible in the view. When you hover the cursor over these parts, they will be highlighted. The original elements from which the parts were created are hidden, so they cannot be selected or highlighted.
- Display Original: The parts themselves are hidden, while the original elements used to create the parts remain visible and selectable. Note that when the Create Components tool is active, the original elements will not be selectable. To further divide an original element, select one of its parts and use the Edit Partition tool. For more details, see Editing Part Segmentation.
- Display Both: Both parts and the original elements are visible. They can be highlighted and selected independently.
Controlling the Appearance of Parts
Parts are a top-level Revit category with their own object styles. These styles define default section and projection line widths, line colors, line patterns, and materials used to display parts. You can adjust these settings globally in the Object Styles dialog or override them in specific views or for individual parts.
Note: If the visibility of parts is turned off in the Visibility/Graphic Overrides dialog box for a view, the Component Visibility attribute will automatically switch to Display Original. Conversely, if Component Visibility is set to Display Parts, then parts will be automatically enabled in the Visibility/Graphic Overrides dialog.
