How to Apply Floor Color Patterns in Revit Sectional Drawings
Whether working with CAD drawings or Revit models, it is common to see specific components filled with patterns in sectional views. Revit offers two types of fill patterns: drafting fill patterns and model fill patterns. These help viewers quickly distinguish different elements within the section.
In the example above, I set the floor and roof section fills to black, which makes the view much clearer. Now, let’s go through the steps to achieve this:
- Go to the View tab and create a section view from the plan.
- After creating the section, you can enter the section view by either:
- Right-clicking on the section line and selecting Go to View, or
- Expanding the section category in the Project Browser and double-clicking the desired section.
- To fill patterns for elements like floors, roofs, and terrain in the section, navigate to View > Visibility/Graphics (shortcut: VG), and locate the floor slab or roof under the Model Categories.
- After selecting the floor slab or roof category, find the Cut Pattern option. Since the section view represents a cut through the model, the fill pattern applies to the cut surface.
- Open the pattern selection panel and choose a Solid Fill for the cut pattern.
- You can customize the fill color freely to suit your needs.
Following these steps, you can easily change the fill pattern of floor slabs in sectional drawings. The same method applies consistently to roofs and building floors.
