How to Use the Navisworks File Reader
Navisworks offers various import settings, such as unit configuration, to better manage your files. In this tutorial, we will use arbitrary site models to demonstrate how to configure the file system effectively.
First, open a saved scene model file in the [NWD] format, then click OK. The process is illustrated in the image below:
Once loaded, the imported site model will appear in the scene. Next, access the file settings by clicking the application menu button and selecting [Options] from the dropdown menu, as shown here:
In the Options Editor dialog, expand the File Reader section to view all file formats supported by Navisworks. For this example, choose the DWG/DXF format, as depicted below:
Select the default decimal unit for the editor, which is set to millimeters, and change it to meters. Confirm your selection by clicking OK, as shown here:
With this setup complete, you can import DWG data seamlessly. In the import dialog, set the file format to DWG, then proceed to load your model, as illustrated:
After configuring the file reader, Navisworks will automatically scale imported files to the correct size. You can verify the building units listed as meters in the selection tree, as shown below:
To quickly open the Options Editor, press F12. Once you have configured the settings, you can export them as an external file. For example, export your options in DWG format and save them as an external XML file, as demonstrated here:
