How to Automatically Recover Crashed or Corrupted CAD Files
If your CAD software crashes due to improper operation or other reasons, here is a step-by-step guide to help you recover your files.
1. After a crash, reopen your CAD program. Click the Application button, then select Options from the dropdown menu, as shown in the image.
2. In the Options dialog box that appears, go to the Files tab. Locate the path for automatically saved files and copy it, following the example in the image.
3. Open My Computer, paste the copied path into the address bar, and press Enter to quickly access the folder, as illustrated.
4. After navigating to the folder, click OK to open the Temp directory. Look for the file you want to recover within this folder, as shown.
5. Once you find the file, select its corresponding .bak file, right-click it, and choose Rename, as demonstrated in the picture.
6. Change the file extension from .bak to .dwg, confirm the change, and your file will be restored, as indicated.
Note: Large file sizes can sometimes cause CAD software to crash. If you encounter this issue, following these steps will allow you to quickly recover the most recent version of your CAD work and continue using it efficiently.
