How to Quickly Find Beams in Revit
In typical projects, identifying areas with high formwork demand often involves searching for beams. Traditionally, this requires comparing CAD drawings individually, which can be time-consuming and tedious. Here, we will explain how to use filters in Revit to quickly locate beams.
1. Open the Visibility/Graphic Overrides interface and switch to the Filters tab. Click on Add, as shown in the image.
2. In the dialog box, click Add Filter. After entering a name, such as Search for Beams, click OK to confirm, as illustrated below.
3. Select the newly created Search for Beams filter. Check the box for the category Structural Framing, then adjust the filter rules according to your needs, as demonstrated in the figure.
4. Modify the Projection/Surface settings by customizing the colors and changing the fill pattern to solid fill. The final appearance is shown in the image.
Summary: In Revit, even middle school students can leverage filters for various purposes, significantly easing many tasks and reducing unnecessary effort. Filters are commonly used to control component visibility and to quickly locate required elements, as explained above.
