How to Create a Display Screen Family in Revit

How to Create a Display Screen Family Using Revit

When working with Revit software, creating components through family commands is a fundamental skill. But what is the proper process for creating these components? Below, we will guide you through the steps to create a display screen family.

1. Start by using Revit to model a computer display screen, as illustrated in the image below (image source: internet). Begin by analyzing the component’s design. The display’s motherboard consists of a front half and a back half. The front half is created by hollow extrusion and cutting, while the back half is formed by a simple extrusion. The base and its bracket are also created through extrusion, and the logo can be added using model text.

2. Open the Metric Conventional Model Template, then open the front (“Facade”) view to sketch the display motherboard. Use the extrusion tool to create the front half, and apply a hollow cut to remove the middle section, as shown in the illustration.

3. Next, draw the back half of the display. Switch to the reference elevation view and use the extrusion tool to form the shape shown. Adjust the start and end points of the extrusion to achieve the correct dimensions.

4. Proceed to model the display’s base. In the reference elevation view, use the extrusion tool again to create a cylindrical base bracket, matching the shape depicted in the figure.

5. After completing the overall shape of the display screen, apply materials and textures. Assign fiberglass as the material for the monitor casing, and add an image of the Windows 10 interface to the screen, as shown.

6. Your simple computer monitor model is now complete, as demonstrated in the image.

Conclusion: Mastering family commands in Revit is essential for component creation. Before starting, analyze the individual parts and the commands required for each to ensure efficient and accurate modeling. In real engineering projects, it is recommended to create components based on precise dimensions.
