BIM Implementation in Developing Eco-Friendly Hotels in the UAE Desert

Liwa Oasis eco hotel

At the request of prominent leaders in the United Arab Emirates, Baharash Architecture recently designed a luxurious private eco hotel located in the Liwa Oasis. The project’s brief emphasized the need for a green, environmentally friendly, and sustainable hotel that blends seamlessly with the surrounding untouched desert landscape. The use of Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology played a significant role in successfully realizing this vision.

Star shaped hotel design

Inspired by the Bedouin tradition of gathering around a fire for social connection, the hotel’s design features a star-shaped layout with a central fireplace. The roof is equipped with solar panels that store energy in multiple batteries, allowing the hotel to operate entirely on self-generated power. The exterior walls consist of prefabricated insulated concrete modules, assembled on-site to ensure durability and energy efficiency.

Additional innovative elements include smart glass windows that can instantly switch to opaque at the flick of a switch, providing guests with privacy whenever desired. Inside, an indoor botanical garden enhances the natural ambiance and offers a tranquil space for relaxation.

“The United Arab Emirates is home to some of the most stunning natural landscapes, like the Liwa Oasis, making it an ideal location for eco-friendly hotels,” said Baharashbagherian, the designer and founder of Baharash Architecture. “We’ve observed that the younger generation in the UAE is increasingly seeking sustainable lifestyles, aligning perfectly with the country’s vision to become a global leader in sustainability. For this reason, eco hotels present an exciting alternative to traditional luxury travel.”
