Yesterday at 5 PM, the main structure of Songya Hunan Station on Changsha Metro Line 3 was completed with the final pouring of reinforced concrete. This milestone makes Songya Hunan the first station on Line 3 to finish its main construction phase.

Located at the intersection of Xingsha Kaiyuan Road and Dongsi Line, Songya Hunan Station is a standardized station measuring 210 meters in length. Construction began in May 2014, and the main structure was completed in just 13 months. This rapid progress was largely driven by the innovative use of Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology during construction. Through computer-based virtual simulations, BIM optimized the construction process significantly.
Cao Chao, the production manager of the China Construction Fifth Engineering Bureau’s project department, explained that BIM applications such as construction animation walkthroughs, 3D animation presentations, and construction plan simulations have greatly improved building quality and safety. These technologies also reduced the need for rework and corrections.
Additionally, to enhance the smoothness and speed of constructing the side walls, the project team designed and built a set of single-sided fully automatic steel formwork trolleys. Unlike traditional composite wooden formwork, which requires dismantling and reinstallation for each side wall section, these trolleys allow flexible movement of the steel formwork. This innovation speeds up mold installation and removal by two to three times.
Looking ahead, Cao Chao mentioned that the next phase will involve building four station entrances and exits along with ancillary structures such as ventilation pavilions. The construction of these supporting facilities is scheduled to be completed by March next year.
