How to Create PRC Character Families in Revit
When working on a project, especially during the decoration phase, you often need to add characters or landscape trees. But how do you create such a family? Below is a step-by-step guide on creating character families in Revit.
1. Start by opening the template file. Click New Family – Select Template File, then choose Metric PRC family.rft and click Open, as shown in the image.
2. In the reference elevation plan view, select the family. Then, in the Attributes panel under the Identify Data section, find Rendering Appearance Properties. Under Related Family Parameters, select None and click Confirm, as illustrated.
Click Rendering Appearance again, and once more under Related Family Parameters, select None and click Confirm, as shown in the picture.
3. Next, click Attributes and then Rendering Appearance. In the pop-up Rendering Appearance Library dialog box, select the character named Dwayne and click Confirm, as demonstrated.
4. Return to the reference elevation plan view, select the PRC family, and in the Attributes panel under the Graphics section, check the Visible checkbox. This is shown in the figure below.
5. Finally, create a new template file and load this family into your project for testing and rendering.
