Feature Highlights

  1. New and Enhanced Features in Navisworks 2024
    • Civil Alignment:
The “View” tab now includes a “Civil Aligns” panel, providing tools to view and navigate routes in DWG and NWC files from Civil 3D. For more information, see the Civil Alignment topic (NW-58227, NW-58228, NW-58229, NW-58321, NW-58322, NW-58503, NW-58704).
    • Revit Files:
      • The section specified in Revit now displays correctly when opening RVT files in Navisworks (NW-54144).
      • Instantaneous geometry no longer shows the Element ID tab in the Properties window. To view the correct Element ID, select the parent element in the “Selection Tree” and check the “Elements” tab under “Properties” (NW-58453).
      • The “Embed Texture” option in the File Editor > File Reader dialog allows embedding external textures in NWC files exported from Revit. Disabling this option reduces file size (NW-58317).
      • New options like “Individual Custom Properties” and “Text Properties on Elements” offer enhanced control over displaying Revit project parameters and type properties (NW-58659, NW-58672).
    • FBX Files:
The FBX Options dialog includes an “Optimize Export” feature (enabled by default) that reuses duplicate geometry during export. Disabling this option can reduce visual glitches when importing FBX files into software such as Autodesk Maya (NW-58640, NW-58673).
    • IFC Files:
Building address properties are now displayed for IFC files (NW-53581).
    • DWG Files:
      • Navisworks dynamically reads and populates property tabs based on AutoCAD properties when opening DWG files (NW-12290, NW-57740).
      • The Options Editor dialog introduces new settings like “Convert External Reference Overlays” and “Convert Leader,” improving handling of external references and leader display in appended DWG files (NW-50121, NW-58199).
    • Performance:
The login workflow has been improved, allowing users to start working in Navisworks without logging in immediately at startup (NW-58544).
    • Additional Improvements:
      • The “Collapse on Conversion” option now preserves visibility of composite groups containing subgroups in the selection tree (NW-57693).
      • The “Viewpoint Default Values” page includes a new “Viewpoint Report” section for exporting viewpoint reports (NW-58617).
      • File extension checks are now case-insensitive, preventing loading errors with files like “.stpZ” (NW-58305).
      • The Windows Start menu shortcut now includes “Navisworks” in its name for easier access (NW-58299).
      • The Application Manager’s “Home” tab has been replaced by a Plugin Manager, simplifying plugin management and access to update/install folders (NW-58248).
      • Navisworks Freedom now displays Autodesk materials specified in DWG files similarly to Navisworks Manage (NW-58686).
  2. Bug Fixes in Navisworks 2024
    • DWG Files:
Floors with negative Z positions now import correctly (NW-52165). Additional fixes address issues with model attachments from model coordination, ReCap point clouds not displaying, and leader conversions (NW-57750, NW-58381, NW-58199).
    • NWC Files:
Resolved batch processing utility issues in the Home tab’s Tools panel (NW-58474).
    • World Development Documents:
Fixed default section alignment display and overexposure caused by duplicate light sources (NW-42685, NW-58675).
    • RVM Files:
Improved pipe bend positioning when using the “Convert Origin” option and fixed file reading errors caused by empty properties (NW-58570).
    • FBX Files:
Fixed texture transparency loss and incorrect object positioning and rotation in exported files (NW-57672, NW-58129).
    • Revit Files:
Manufacturing insulation materials now display correctly in the selection tree (NW-58113).
    • Smart Factory 3D Files:
Corrected spherical geometry display issues in VUE files (NW-58339).
    • Inventor Files:
Fixed missing components when opening Inventor files (NW-58207).
    • MicroStation Files:
Geometry in DGN files no longer appears as wireframes and now respects transparency settings (NW-58647, NW-57592).
    • Coordination Add-on:
Resolved object movement issues when adding models from model coordination and vertex color rendering problems in SVF files. Key properties are retained when importing Revit or assembly models (NW-57750, NW-57926, NW-58447).
    • BIM 360 Glue Integration:
Fixed hidden object visibility problems when updating shared views with new model versions (NW-58487).
    • Security:
Addressed multiple vulnerabilities in visualization components (NW-58651).
    • Crash Fixes:
Fixed crashes related to opening NWF files with DWG references, FBX file loading, timeline tool usage, bookmark saving, Civil 3D files, animation exports, invalid date attributes, lighting mode switching, and Vault integration (NW-57127, NW-57168, NW-58185, NW-58456, NW-58575, NW-58611, NW-58645, NW-58683, NW-58709).
    • Other Fixes:
      • Removed Microsoft Access Database Engine from the Navisworks installer to avoid conflicts with Microsoft Office 365 applications (NW-57729, NW-58132).
      • 2D quantification tools now render correctly (NW-57981).
      • Resolved text selection and bounding box issues in DGN and DWG files (NW-58133).
      • File Options Editor changes for DWG/DXF pages now save properly (NW-58585).
      • Scaling transformations are correctly applied to grid systems (NW-58577).
      • Default axis settings can now be configured accurately in the File Options dialog (NW-58462).
      • Color rendering in Navisworks now matches AutoCAD colors, fixing previous brightness and clarity issues (NW-58714).
      • Geometries in IFC files no longer display incorrectly at the model origin (NW-58766).
  3. Known Issues in Navisworks 2024
  4. Minor discrepancies may occur between alignment methods in Civil 3D and Navisworks.
