How to Convert Groups and Linked Models Using New Features in Revit 2019
In Revit 2019, you can easily convert groups into linked Revit models, or vice versa. However, please note that the command to convert groups into linked models does not apply to Revit Cloud Worksharing models.
When your model contains numerous geometric interactions—such as connections, inserts, or references—and you need to manage project standards centrally, using groups is recommended. Typical examples where groups are beneficial include hotel rooms, apartments, and repetitive floors.
Switching between groups and links can be particularly useful in certain scenarios. For instance, if your model has multiple identical elements organized into groups, these groups can be maintained as linked Revit models. During work within the main model, linked models can be converted into groups to enable editing within the main model’s environment. Once the modifications are complete, the group can then be converted back into a linked model.
After creating a group or a linked Revit model, decide if you want to switch the group to a linked model or convert a linked model back into a group.
When converting a group into a linked Revit model, any elements that were previously excluded will be restored in the linked model.
