How to Promote Secondary Options to Primary Options in Revit 2019’s New Features
In Revit, the primary option represents the central preferred design choice. Elements within the main model and the primary options are mutually referenceable.
Within each design option set, only one option can be designated as the primary option, while all others are considered secondary options. By default, project views display both the main model and the primary option of each set simultaneously.
If you wish to promote a secondary option to primary status, be aware that Revit will attempt to transfer relationships from the former primary option to the new one. For example, suppose you have a dimension between a wall in the main model and a wall in the primary option. If the same wall has been slightly moved in the secondary option, promoting this secondary option to primary will update the dimension accordingly, reflecting the accurate distance between the walls.
Steps to Promote a Secondary Option to Primary:
1. Go to the Manage tab and select the Design Options panel.
2. In the Design Options dialog box, select the secondary design option you want to promote.
3. Click Set as Main Option.
Revit will then elevate the chosen secondary option to the primary option. In the Design Options dialog, this option’s name will be followed by (Main Option). The previously primary option will automatically become secondary.
Note: If you encounter any error messages, try deleting conflicting elements from the main model and then click Close to proceed.
After promotion, review the project views that display the main model and the new primary option. Check all dimension references and tags to ensure they correctly reference the appropriate elements.
