How to Convert a Host-Based Family to a Non-Host-Based Family in Revit

How to Convert a Host-Based Family to a Non-Host-Based Family in Revit

During the modeling process, placing host-based families can sometimes be challenging. Using a host-based squat toilet as an example, this guide explains how to convert it into a non-host-based family.

1. Create a new family by selecting the Metric Standard Model template, as demonstrated in the image below.

2. Load the host-based squat toilet into the new family file and position it as shown in the illustration.

3. Add and link the parameters of the squat toilet within the new family file, following the example in the figure.

4. Incorporate cold water and sewage pipe connectors, and associate the relevant parameters as depicted.

5. Save the squat toilet family and exit. You can now load it into your project for placement without it being host-dependent.

Summary: By following these steps, you can modify a host-based or face-based family to become non-host-based or non-face-based, and vice versa.
