New Features in Revit 2019: Viewing and Selecting Zones
In building models, zones can be managed through both floor plan and section views. To view these zones, you must first enable the visibility of the partitions.
Besides using floor plan and section views, you can also access zones via the System Browser and the Heating and Cooling Loads dialog box, where you can examine the hierarchical relationships of partitions and spaces.
Zoning in Floor Plan and Section Views
You can view and manipulate zones directly within floor plan and section views. Selecting zones in these views is done the same way as selecting other components in Revit.
Zones (and spaces) associated with small gap spaces do not appear in the plan view. However, they are displayed in the preview pane of the Heating and Cooling Loads dialog box because these small gap spaces are analyzed during load calculations.
Zoning in Elevation and 3D Views
Zones cannot be viewed, created, or selected in elevation or 3D views.
Partitions in the System Browser
The System Browser allows you to view the hierarchy of partitions and spaces. Spaces are organized based on the partition they belong to. There are two types of partitions: those created by users and default partitions created automatically.
Initially, all spaces are assigned to the Default partition. Every space must belong to a partition.
Once you create a new partition, it will appear separately from the default partition in the System Browser. Adding a space to a partition moves it from the default partition to the newly created one.
Ultimately, all spaces in the model should be assigned to defined partitions, leaving the Default partition empty.
To display partitions in the System Browser, click the View Bar, then System, and select Partition.
To select a partition in the System Browser, hold down the CTRL key and click on the desired partition. The selected partition will be highlighted in red within floor plan and section views. You can also right-click a partition to display, delete, or view its properties.
Note: Spaces can also be managed within the System Browser and the Heating and Cooling Loads dialog box, where similar hierarchical relationships of partitions and spaces are displayed.
