Creating a Stair Tread Profile Family in Revit
In real life, stair treads come in various styles. So, how can we create different stair tread profile families in Revit? (Note: The stair tread profile family is only compatible with component stairs.)
Start by opening the Revit Family Template and selecting Metric Outline – Staircase Front Edge. This template clearly marks the positions of the tread surface and the stair surface.
First, rename the file to Staircase Surface. Then, set the maximum number of backups to 1. Next, add some reference planes, annotate their dimensions, and assign parameters such as tread thickness, kick panel height, and kick panel thickness. Draw the outline by placing lines and lock the lines to the reference planes.
Once the family is created, load it into your project. Edit the stair type by selecting Edit Stair Run Type. Then, check the kickoff option and modify the kickoff profile by assigning the newly created contour family. Adjust the kickoff thickness, assign the material, and set the maximum kickoff height as needed.
Follow these steps carefully to ensure your stair tread profile functions properly within your Revit project.
