Creating Glass Railings and Handrails with Curtain Walls in Revit

How to Use Curtain Walls to Create Glass Railings and Handrails in Revit

Nowadays, stair railings and handrails feature increasingly unique designs, such as glass panel railings commonly seen in shopping malls and train stations. Below is a step-by-step guide on how to create railings with glass panels in Revit.

1. Begin by selecting a metric curtain wall panel family template, as illustrated in the image.

2. Next, use the Stretch tool located in the Create tab to sequentially draw the wooden handrails, supporting columns, and the glass curtain wall panels around them. Be sure to assign appropriate materials to each component, as shown in the reference figure.

3. After completing the drawing, review the model as demonstrated in the image.

4. Then, load the curtain wall family into your project. Select the wall, navigate to the Properties panel, choose the curtain wall, and adjust the relevant settings under Edit Type to fine-tune the appearance and behavior.

5. Finally, draw the curtain wall grid to achieve the desired effect, as depicted in the example image.

Summary: By following this process, you will not only learn how to create railings with various shapes but also understand how to combine custom and system families to build diverse architectural elements.
