How to Quickly Create Irregular Decorative Walls (or Baseboards) in Revit
When modeling walls in Revit, it is common to include skirting lines or irregular decorative walls at the base, as shown in the image. If the decorative wall is divided into three parts—such as using the wall decoration strip from the building menu—it can slow down the workflow and increase the chance of errors in elevation.
1. Start by using the metric contour template to draw the style contour family. Save this family to your desktop, as illustrated below.
2. Go to the Architecture tab and select the Wall command. In the wall properties panel, click Edit Type. This will open the Type Properties dialog box. Under the Structure section, click Edit to modify the wall’s structure, as shown in the image.
3. In the Preview window, choose View and select Profile. Then click Modify Type Properties, as demonstrated in the screenshot.
4. Click Modify Vertical Structure and navigate to the Wall Decoration Strip. Load the two contour families you prepared earlier into the project and add them to the structure. Don’t forget to assign the appropriate materials, as shown below.
5. The final result should resemble the example in the image.
Summary: By following these steps, you will learn how to create custom decorative elements such as baseboards and irregular decorative walls. Additionally, you will gain skills in creating various contour shapes by designing contour families.
