How to Implement BIM Collaborative Solutions with Revit
1. Establishing Central Files
1.1 User A begins by creating a new project, setting up the elevation and grid system, and defining the project baseline.
1.2 Next, navigate to the Collaboration tab, click on Worksets, select Create a Workset, and name it Structure. Structural drawings will be developed within this workset.
1.3 Finally, save the file as a central file and upload it to the file transfer station for team access.
2. Cross-Discipline Collaboration
The Revit collaboration feature plays a vital role in enhancing work efficiency by:
- Allowing multiple users to work on the same model simultaneously, ensuring everyone has access to the latest design updates.
- Maximizing local area network resources and eliminating inefficient methods like file duplication and replacement.
- Controlling model visibility to limit loaded content, which reduces hardware demands on local machines.
- Optimizing shared families within each workset to avoid duplications, thereby reducing overall model size.
Operation Steps:
2.1 User A downloads the central file from the transfer station to their local machine, opens it, works on the structural elements, and synchronizes changes back to the central file in real-time.
2.2 User B downloads the central file locally, opens it, creates a new workspace under the Collaboration tab named Architecture, synchronizes it to the central file, and begins architectural modeling. When exiting, users can choose whether to retain their created elements and worksets. Retaining them is generally recommended to prevent others from modifying your components freely.
2.3 Since elements within each workset have assigned ownership, other users cannot modify them without permission. If a user needs to edit or delete components owned by someone else, they must send a request to that owner.
2.4 Upon receiving a request, the component owner will be notified and the relevant element will be highlighted. The owner can approve or deny the request. If approved, the rights to delete or modify the component transfer to the requester, who can then make the changes accordingly.
