How to Create Lights with Light Sources in Revit
During the modeling process, some components require defined light sources. So, how do you add lighting to these elements? Let’s use a lamp with a light source as an example to explain the steps.
1. Start by creating a new metric standard model and open the front elevation view. Use the Rotate command to draw the lampshade, as shown in the image below.
2. Next, create the light bulb shape using the revolving tool, as illustrated.
3. Then, use the revolving tool to form the light bulb, applying a white material to it, as shown in the picture.
4. Now, add the light source to the lamp.
First, set the family category for this family: open the Family Category and Parameters tab, and from the family category dropdown, select Lighting Equipment. Then, in the family parameters dropdown, select Light Source and check the box next to it. Finally, click OK, as demonstrated in the image.
5. Select the light source, and under the Properties menu, find the Light Domain dropdown and choose Definition of Light Source. Edit the light source settings, as shown below.
Here, you can adjust the light source’s angle, as illustrated.
Summary: By following this guide, you will learn how to properly add lighting to components. This technique is useful for enhancing rendering effects and improving the realism of your model visualizations.
