How to Set a Consistent Slope for Drainage Pipes in Revit

How to Set a Uniform Slope Value for Drainage Pipes in Revit

Drainage pipes are classified as non-pressure pipelines. Since there is no pressure during the drainage process, it is essential to maintain a consistent slope in both the pipeline layout and floor tile installation. Typically, the slope should be controlled within the range of 0.5% to 1%. For indoor systems, the lowest end of the drainage pipe must connect to the main drainage pipe while maintaining this slope.

When drawing drainage pipes, if the slope is disabled or set to 0.0000%, the normal process involves simply completing the modeling of all drainage pipes, as illustrated below.

To set the slope value in advance, navigate to Management > MEP Settings > Mechanical Settings. Here, you can specify the slope value for the drainage pipeline—for example, setting it to 6‰ (per mille), as shown in the image.

Next, in the 3D front view, select all the drainage pipes, as demonstrated in the figure.

Then, go to Modify/Edit, click on Slope in the center toolbar, set the slope to your desired value, and click Complete. This will apply a uniform slope across the entire pipeline system, as shown below.

Why is this important? Setting a uniform slope quickly and consistently improves modeling efficiency and reduces error rates.
