How to Automatically Trim Overlapping Structural Walls and Beams in Revit

How to Make Revit Cut Off the Overlapping Part of Structural Walls with Beams

When modeling, you might encounter a scenario like the one shown below, where the structural wall cuts off the overlapping section with a beam. In reality, this should be reversed. So, how can we fix this issue?

Revit 2014 introduced a feature called “Switch Connection Order”, which can resolve this problem effectively.

However, due to client requirements, we had to use an earlier version of Revit that lacks this feature. So, how can we achieve the desired result with just a few simple steps?

1. First, cancel the connection between the beams and walls.

2. Next, remove the structural function from the wall.

3. Then, use the connect command to link the walls and beams again—select the beams first, followed by the walls.

Since we are working with structural walls, remember to restore the structural function of the wall at the end.
