How to Add Flip Controls to Special Fittings in Revit
In Revit, three-way or four-way gravity pipes have a specific orientation. However, the automatically generated fittings might not align with the required direction. In such cases, flipping the fittings is necessary, but some fittings do not come with a built-in flip control. To address this, you can manually add a flip control to these fittings, enabling you to flip them as needed.
Follow these steps to add flip controls:
1. Locate the fitting that requires a flip control and double-click it to enter Family Editor mode. (See Figure 1)
2. In the floor plan view, find the reference plane in the sub-tab under the view. (See Figure 2)
3. Click on Create, then Control, and select the flip control direction you want. For this example, choose Bidirectional Horizontal. (See Figure 3)
4. With a single click, place the flip control onto the pipe fitting at the desired location. Then, load the updated family back into your project. You can now flip the pipe fitting’s direction directly within your project using this control. (See Figure 4)
Why This Technique Matters:
When you encounter fittings that cannot be flipped by default, adding your own flip controls saves time and effort by eliminating the need to search for alternative fittings.
