How to Create Doors with Opening Angles in Revit
In the Revit Basic Modeling Process, projects with high Level of Detail (LOD) requirements often cannot rely on standard family components due to precision limitations. Therefore, creating or modifying existing families becomes necessary. Using a door as an example, this guide explains how to create a door that includes an opening angle.
1. Select the appropriate family template file.
Note: Typically, you would choose metric door templates or wall-based metric models. If opting for a wall-based metric model, ensure that its family category and parameters are properly set.
2. In the External view, stretch the outer frame and lock the frame’s outline to the wall.
3. Determine the door frame thickness by referencing the elevation view. Draw two reference lines on both sides of the wall and set them to be equally divided (EQ). Lock the outer edge of the door frame to these reference lines and assign the door thickness parameter.
4. On the reference elevation, draw a reference line to define the door’s opening angle and lock it in place.
5. Set the angle parameters accordingly.
6. Use the stretch command to adjust the width and thickness of the door panel, then add the relevant parameters. Note: Align and lock the outer edge of the door panel to the reference line.
7. Adjust the door panel height in the exterior view so it aligns with the locked door frame. Load the door handle family to add handles to doors with angled openings. Additionally, assign material parameters and apply materials to these doors.
8. Assign appropriate materials to doors with angled openings to complete the modeling process.
