How to Add Shared Parameters in Revit
In this example, we will demonstrate how to add duct wall thickness as a shared parameter in Revit.
1. Open Revit and navigate to the Project Parameters option located in the Manage toolbar, as illustrated in Figure 1.
2. Click on Project Parameters to open the Project Parameters dialog box. Then, click the Add button, as shown in Figure 2.
3. In the Parameter Properties dialog box that appears, enable the Shared Parameters option and select the desired shared parameter, as demonstrated in Figure 3.
4. The Shared Parameters dialog box will appear. Click Edit to proceed, as shown in Figure 4.
5. In the Edit Shared Parameters dialog box, click Create and save the new shared parameter file, as shown in Figures 5 and 6.
6. Within the shared parameters editing dialog, create a new group named New Duct Wall Thickness Group. Then, add a new parameter under this group. Confirm by clicking OK, as presented in Figures 7 through 10.
7. Return to the Parameter Properties dialog box, select the categories Air Duct and Air Duct Fittings, then click OK, as shown in Figure 11.
8. In your project, the parameters for air ducts will now include the newly added wall thickness parameter, as shown in Figure 12.
9. Create a detailed schedule for air ducts and assign a consistent value to the wall thickness parameter for all air ducts, as demonstrated in Figures 13 to 16.
10. The wall thickness information for air ducts has now been successfully assigned within the project, as shown in Figure 17.
