How to Add Points on the Surface of Mass Segmentation in Revit
When placing special panels on a volume, it is often necessary to add points at specific locations—such as halfway (1/2), one-third (1/3), or one-quarter (1/4) intervals—between two nodes on the dividing surface.
Using the “Point Element” tool alone does not allow you to accurately capture the surface of the volume or precisely position points between two existing points.
Follow these steps to achieve the desired point placement:
- Start by creating a new family template using the “Adaptive Metric Conventional Model” and name it “Clan 1.” Within this template, place two points randomly using the “Point Element” tool, then set both points as adaptive.
- Select the two adaptive points, then use the “Spline Curve Through Points” tool to connect them, creating reference lines.
- Select the generated reference line and click “Divide Path” to split the line into segments.
- With the divided reference line selected, open the Properties panel and locate the “Node” group under “Quantity.” Here, associate family parameters by creating a new instance parameter named “Number of Nodes.”
- Load “Clan 1” into the mass environment. You can now modify the “Number of Nodes” instance parameter to control the placement of nodes at specific locations along the reference line.
