Addressing Incorrect Project Orientation Issues in Revit

The Issue of Incorrect Project Orientation in Revit

In many BIM projects, the project orientation often does not align with true north. This discrepancy can cause significant inconvenience when working in Revit. To resolve this, it is necessary to rotate the entire project so that the project north matches true north.

As illustrated below, the project’s north orientation does not coincide with true north—in this case, the project north is rotated eastward relative to true north.

Follow these steps to correct the orientation:

  1. Open any floor plan view and set the orientation to Project North, as shown in the image.
  2. Go to the Manage tab, click on Location, then select Rotate Project North from the drop-down menu, as demonstrated in the illustration.
  3. Rotate the entire project accordingly to align it correctly, as reflected in both the floor plan and 3D views.
  4. Finally, switch the orientation back to True North. This will restore the project to its original position with true north facing up, as shown in the following figure.
