Setting Up Net Height Analysis for Comprehensive Management in Revit
After adjusting the overall management of the entire area, it’s often necessary to organize the elevation of all pipelines in the project. This is especially important when the owner has strict requirements for the net height of mechanical and electrical installations. Since filters cannot be directly applied based on the height of electromechanical components, special settings are required to filter different elevations effectively.
Follow these steps to set up net height analysis:
- Open the Revit document that requires net height analysis.
- In the Properties panel, under the Range tab, click Edit View Range.
- Set the view range, preferably starting from the lowest point relevant to your management system. Note: The top elevation should match the relevant ground elevation. It’s recommended to set the top offset about 100 units higher than the bottom offset. You can adjust the offset difference based on the required accuracy, with the cut plane set at the midpoint.
- Click OK. Pipes within the specified top and bottom elevation range will now be displayed in the plan view. Next, click the Revit icon in the upper left corner, select Export → CAD Formats → DWG.
- Click Next.
- Save the file within your working folder. It’s best to name the file according to the top and bottom offsets. Save it as a low-version AutoCAD file. Ensure that the option “Export views and links on the drawing as external references (Xrefs)” is not checked.
- After exporting to CAD format, open the file in AutoCAD. Use polylines to enclose specific parts of the drawing, fill them with different colors, and create drawings representing different elevation zones. Repeat this process for each elevation range. Finally, integrate all drawings to form a complete net height analysis chart.
The Importance of Net Height Analysis:
When presenting your work to owners, it’s essential to provide a clear visual representation of different elevation areas using color coding. This approach makes it easy to quickly identify where net height requirements are met or unmet, pinpoint specific locations, and assess any potential impact on user experience or functionality.
