How to Repair Damaged Revit Central Files
Revit files can become unstable during the modeling process, especially when a large number of externally inserted families—such as built-in or standard models—are added and the project complexity increases. This can cause the central file to crash when importing families, during the drawing process, or even when switching between Chinese and English input methods.
Sometimes, Revit will prompt you to save recovered files after a crash. If you save the recovery file, you can simply open it next time and synchronize to continue working. However, there are cases where the central file becomes corrupted after a crash. Here is a step-by-step guide on how to recover damaged central files:
- Open the recovery backup generated by Revit 2014 collaboration and click on Restore Backup.
- Select the location of the central file and the backup file. For example, in this article, the central file named XXX basement file 20150716 is located on the desktop. After the central file is created, Revit automatically saves additional files such as Revit_temp, XXX basement file 20150716_mackup, and others. Click on the latter folder, XXX basement file 20150716_mackup.
- At this point, you will see a list of backup versions of the project, including the current version, the user who saved the file, and the corresponding date and time. Click Save As to proceed.
- Choose the location where you want to save the recovered file. Once saved, your folder recovery is complete, and you can continue working despite the central file being damaged.
