Currently, there are various types of BIM software available in China, including analysis, design, cost estimation, management, and modeling tools. Among these, modeling software is the most widely used, with Autodesk’s Revit series being the leading choice in this category. In this article, we will focus on some of the most commonly used BIM modeling software.
1. Autodesk Revit
Autodesk’s Revit series is specifically developed for BIM technology, offering a comprehensive range of BIM functions to meet diverse user needs. It supports building BIM models, MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) graphic components, information management, automated generation of drawings and reports, engineering simulations, and facility maintenance management.
2. Bentley AECOsim Building Designer
AECOsim Building Designer is an integrated BIM modeling software that supports the design of buildings, structures, electromechanical systems, and pipelines. It provides a complete and efficient BIM solution, including scheduling simulation, clash detection, object management, and budget report generation. Additionally, it can be used alongside other Bentley products for collaborative workflows, thermal analysis, and wind field simulations.
3. ArchiCAD
Developed by Graphisoft, a Hungarian company, ArchiCAD is an ideal 3D architectural design software that combines 2D drawing and layout capabilities with a strong focus on 3D modeling and design. It is considered one of the earliest BIM software in the industry. ArchiCAD also offers extension modules such as MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing), ECO (Energy Analysis), and Atlantis rendering plugins, and supports IFC standards as well as GDL (Geometric Description Language) technology.
4. TEKLA Structures
TEKLA Structures is a 3D modeling software developed by TEKLA, specializing in structural design. It includes features for 3D structural modeling, structural analysis, detailed 3D steel structure and reinforced concrete design, project management, and automatic generation of Bill of Materials (BOM) tables.
The above software are some of the most commonly used BIM modeling tools discussed here. There are also other excellent BIM software options, such as MagiCAD and PKPM from Guanglian Da, but their application scope and popularity remain limited, so they are not covered in this overview.
