BIM has been present in China for over a decade, and its powerful capabilities are widely recognized. However, the unique characteristics of China’s construction environment, combined with the complexity of the domestic market, have hindered its smooth and healthy development. In this article, the author shares several suggestions on how to effectively promote BIM, hoping to spark a meaningful discussion.
1. Government Leadership
The successful promotion of new technologies requires strong support from government agencies. It is recommended that the government promote BIM through policy initiatives by establishing relevant BIM contracts, acceptance standards, owner requirement specifications, and publishing normative guidelines. Integrating BIM implementation into the broader construction industry framework will improve the current market situation for BIM.
2. Engaging Third-Party Teams
During the transition phase for construction enterprises, understanding and managing associated risks is crucial. Delegating the transformation process to experienced consultants who have successfully implemented BIM in project execution can reduce the risk of failure. Construction companies are advised to collaborate with these specialized BIM consultants to enhance the professionalism and effectiveness of their architectural processes.
3. Applying BIM in Traditional Projects
Although the domestic BIM system is still evolving, construction firms can leverage BIM technology to gain competitive advantages and boost efficiency. Architects can use BIM tools for drafting and analysis, applying BIM methodologies to traditional projects and generating the necessary documentation in compliance with conventional contract requirements.
4. Strengthening Domestic BIM Talent Development
It is essential for government agencies, professional architecture associations, information technology organizations, universities, and other institutions to collaborate in building a robust BIM talent cultivation system. Improving organizational structures and nurturing skilled professionals will facilitate the integration of BIM into the market and drive technological advancement.
5. Raising Awareness of BIM Promotion
Currently, awareness and understanding of BIM within the domestic construction industry remain limited. Careless execution of BIM projects can lead to significant risks. Therefore, industry professionals should actively enhance their BIM knowledge by participating in seminars, workshops, and other educational activities.
That concludes the author’s thoughts on effectively promoting BIM. Since these suggestions are based on personal opinions and reflections, some points may lack full elaboration or maturity. We appreciate your understanding and welcome further discussion.
