The wooden boardwalk stretches one kilometer long and two meters wide, supported by pillars rising from the forest floor. It follows the edge of Fyresvatn Lake, winds along the ridge among the treetops, and ascends to the summit of Klokkarhamaran. At the trail’s end, a 50-meter diameter circular observation deck offers a stunning 360-degree panoramic view of the surrounding natural landscape, featuring pine forests, crystal-clear lakes, and dramatic rock formations.

The design of the wooden boardwalk carefully follows the natural curves of the mountain range. It weaves along ridges and slopes, occasionally extending outward to create scenic viewpoints and dramatic elevation changes. This allows visitors to enjoy the refreshing breeze as they stroll among the treetops.

The pedestrian path features a gentle slope, making it accessible to walkers, cyclists, strollers, and wheelchairs alike. Monica Sølyst, project leader at Faun Naturforvaltning, explains that this project was born from a sincere vision: to enable everyone, regardless of physical ability, to experience the unique sensation of walking among the treetops.

The supporting structure, walkway, and railings are all crafted from locally sourced pine wood. This choice allows the structure to harmonize with the surrounding pine forest, sometimes giving the impression of a boardwalk floating effortlessly through the trees.

To realize the vision of enhancing rather than disrupting the natural beauty, the EFFEKT team collaborated with local contractor Inge Aamlid to develop a simple wooden construction system for the entire boardwalk. This system uses small, straight prefabricated components that are easy to transport and assemble on-site with minimal machinery and manual labor, minimizing environmental impact during construction. When assembled, these components form organic shapes that gracefully curve around trees and mountain contours. This method allowed Aamlid to build the leisure trail while honoring Fyresdal’s logging heritage through the use of local wood and traditional craftsmanship.
